December 24, 1968
CHARLOTTE (AP) — Former movie actress Mabel Lillian Rea was killed Tuesday when the car in which she was riding slammed into a utility pole.
Glenn Eugene Helms, 40, driver of the car, was critically injured. Police said the accident occurred just outside the Charlotte city limits.
The 36-year-old Miss Rea, a onetime Rockette, appeared in several movies and on television guest spots in the late '50s and early '60s. Movies she appeared in included "Pal Joey," "Bundle of Joy," and "I Married a Woman."
She was a native of Charlotte. Lately she had developed a luxury apartment and duplex complex in the North Carolina city.
